European Cycling Endurance Route - $1,899

This European Cycling Endurance Route is basically a week of turning your legs into pistons while rolling through some of the prettiest countryside France has, think endless vineyards, quiet backroads lined with poplars, little stone villages that look straight out of a postcard. We meet in Tours or nearby, quick bike fitting if you're renting (solid road or hybrid bikes, nothing pro-level but reliable), helmets and basic tools provided, then a short warm-up spin on day one to shake out travel stiffness.

Mornings start relaxed with breakfast at whatever charming inn we're in, croissants, jam, yogurt, strong coffee, fruit, enough carbs to get you going. Then we roll out as a group, guides up front and back, support van cruising along with extra water, snacks, spare tubes if somebody flats. Routes average 50-70km, some days flatter along river paths, others with punchy hills that make you earn the descents, always on low-traffic lanes away from tourist buses. We stop midway for proper lunch, maybe a picnic the van sets up or a cafe in a market square, baguettes, cheese, fresh salads, cold drinks.

Pace is steady but not racey, we keep the group together, wait at tops of climbs or turns so everyone rides their own effort without pressure. You'll feel the build-up over days, quads getting stronger, lungs opening up, that quiet rhythm of pedaling for hours with just wind and chatter. Afternoons we roll into the next town, shower at the inn, old converted farmhouses or family-run hotels with decent beds and usually a garden or terrace. Evenings are for recovery, stretch a bit, big dinner together, local wine if you want, pasta or grilled meats, early-ish nights because tomorrow's kilometers wait.

One or two rest days are shorter rides with optional loops, chance to visit a chateau or winery without killing the legs. Guides know hidden roads, detour for a viewpoint or bakery stop when it feels right. Weather can bring rain, we pack light jackets, van has space if anybody needs a lift for a section, no shame in that. It's physical work for sure, by mid-week your butt might complain, but the satisfaction of covering real distance under your own power, seeing France unfold kilometer by kilometer, beats any spin class.

Pack padded shorts, clipless pedals if you use them (or we adapt), layers for cool mornings, appetite for both riding and eating. You'll finish stronger, with legs that feel earned and a head full of quiet roads and French sunlight. If turning a trip into serious training miles sounds perfect, this route delivers every pedal stroke. Keen to roll?
